Ariana (From The Diary of Ariana Thomson) #1

My name's Ariana.  I love traveling and hate learning things from books.  I can never settle down for any book, even action and adventure books.  I just wish there was another funner way of learning facts than just from a book.
I've been pretty much all over the world.  I call it a "hobby."  Yet, none of these journeys have been as hectic as the one to the East Coast and the encounter with the ring.

Abigail (From Sincerely, Your Shadow) #1

Hello, my name is Abigail.  I'm very creeped out by "My Shadow," as it calls itself, but I feel like I should trust it.  Would you?  I've always felt drawn to magic tricks and fantasy books, especially ghost stories.  I like the feeling of goosebumps.  They relax me for some reason.  Will you be my pen pal?
Your's Truly,
Abigail

Sincerely, Your Shadow #3

Who was this "shadow" and how would I be able to send mail through my dream catcher?  That day,  I asked the mail man when he came by if he carried a black letter for me.  He looked through all the mail, and there was none.

I probably was hallucinating and imagining the two other letters.  Or maybe it had been a realistic dream!  Happy to be free from this stressing burden, I skipped into my bedroom, only to find a black envelope underneath my dream catcher.

I hurriedly tore it open and this time, I didn't only get a letter, but also a chain with a feather and bead attached to it.  I slowly unfolded the letter and quickly read.

Dear Abigail Uhbandont,

I am surprised you never became suspicious of your last name.  Your clever guardians created it for you.

I had wondered why my last name was so weird, but every time I asked Father, he told me I shouldn't be embarrassed by my name.  "It is who you are," he told me.  Wait, Uhbandont, wouldn't that mean Abandoned?  Abigail Abandoned?  Was My Shadow right, those weren't my true parents?  I kept reading.

I know why you have not answered me.  But don't disbelieve the truth.  There is nothing you can do about it.  The charm enclosed with this letter will be your source of power in your "Earth" as you call it.  Do not wear it unless under the worst of circumstances.  It only works at night.

Please do write back to this letter.  Do not be afraid of me, and don't tell your father.

Finally, at midnight precisely, go under the willow tree near the pond at the park.  Place the charm around your neck and incant, "Crystal clear path, appear." Follow the luminescent path that goes across the lake.  I will be waiting for you.  I will answer all of your questions.  Do not fear me.
Sincerely,
Your Shadow

Sincerely, Your Shadow #2

Highly surprised by the first letter, I didn't exactly catch the part about there being more to come.  Obviously, another one came the next day.

Dear Abigail,

They almost spotted me.  We need to meet, yet, it is nearly impossible.  We are from two different worlds that almost never come in contact with each other.  These letters are the only communication I have with you.  Answer this letter.  Tell me if anything strange has happened.  To send me your letter, place it under your dream catcher tonight.  It'll be gone in the morning.  Hurry.  There is not much time.  Do NOT tell anyone of me, especially not your father.
Sincerely,
Your Shadow

I know I probably should have, but would you have answered someone who claims to be "Your Shadow?"  Exactly my point.  I still couldn't bring myself to tell Father.  After all, being the child of a famous author, you can get some interesting mail.

Sincerely, Your Shadow #1

It was quite a normal day like any  other.  I reluctantly headed to our mailbox.  Since our dad is a famous author, he receives a ton of letters.  So mail duty is my least favorite chore.

Like every other day, I pulled out all the letters.  A black one fell.  As I picked it up, I realized it wasn't for my father, but for me.  I looked again.  It said in fancy letters: Abigail Uhbandont.

I gave the rest to my father and hurried to my room.  Carefully, I opened the envelope.  The letter was like none I had ever seen.  Like made of parchment.  Eagerly, I read,

My Dear Abigail,

Times have been tough, but finally, I have found you.  Your parents did an excellent job keeping you safe and you should be happy you didn't stay with those other terrible guardians that almost lead you to your death.  No need to worry now, though.  I've got you.  You'll be safe now.
Sincerely,
Your Shadow
P.S. Do not tell anybody of this letter.  There are more to come.
