Sincerely, Your Shadow #5

Fear swept over me.  I tore its freezing hand off me and ran back across the bridge.  But before I could make it across, it vanished from under my feet.  I fell in the water.  I looked back and there it was following me in.  I was stuck in this shadowy place and I couldn't get out.

"Do not fear me," said the shadow.  "I mean only to protect you."

I slowly backed away.

"You're safer here than you are at home," it said again.

I didn't say a word.

"It's really hard to believe you're one of us, sister," she said.

If it had been like in the movies, I would have certainly fainted.  Yet, curiosity overcame my strong desire to black out.

"How could I be one of you.  I mean... well, I'm human and you're... not.  Anyway, we couldn't be sisters because we look nothing alike, right?"

She smiled, "Look again."

She removed her black shawl that gave her the impression of a shadow.  I observed her features.  Long black hair, pale white skin, almost transparent.

"Fine, we do look similar, but I'm not transparent like you," I said.

She looked at me with defiant eyes.  I looked down at myself and sure enough, I was transparent, like her.

"What did you do to me?" I screamed at her.
