The sea breeze blew my long, golden hair that reached my shoulders. I was caressed in a golden dress that reached my toes, and nothing could stop me from singing to the red-chested blue bird a song.
The sun goes down, The stars come out, And all that counts is here and now, My universe will never be the same, I’m glad you came
The blue bird tweeted a lovely melody that I praised him for. He ruffled his feathers proudly, and flew off into the sunset. I wore no shoes, and set off to the beach to feel the lovely sand on my feet. I searched for shells, and soon I found one that was a beauty, all right. It had pink, purple, and blue embedded on the outside, and on the inside, a small note.
When you find a shell, ponder this: Is it beautiful? If so, why? Is it worth keeping? If so, why? Does it have a secret hidden for no one else to see? If so, find it, and watch your life change.
My heart started racing. What if this shell contained a secret that could alter my life? After all, I did live in a tree I had built myself. What if this changed all that? I reread the poem again. Suddenly, I had it a stopping point. What if this shell had no secret for me to find? I mean, it is beautiful, and worth keeping, but is there a mystery to it? The note even says “If so,” which means there is no guarantee. Quickly, I could have to find a way to discover if there was a secret or not. And fast, because shells are very shy creatures. Carrying the beautiful shell, I set off to my tree house.

Back at home, I examined the shell. The blend of the pink, purple, and blue sure made it stand out. On every inch of it, it was rough and sandy. Suddenly, I remembered learning in school that mermaid shells are the same texture. What if this brought me to the mermaids? Just the thought sent excitement through me. No one had seen them in centuries! But now was my time to change that.
Exhilarated, I ran as fast as my dress would allow me, down to the beach. As though copying instructions, I placed the shell on the water, and waited. After several minutes of sitting on a boulder, I spotted a mat of green hair pop out of the water. Then, a head came out, it was smiling, laughing, and her eyes were a startling blue. I was shocked. Never before had a girl been so beautiful. She flipped in the water, and her mermaid tail was a light pink, covered in sparkles and glitter. She wore a necklace that had several charms on it, such as a dolpins, a heart, and a mermaid. She waved hello to me, and said, “Welcome, stranger. I am Perium, and I come from the mermaid world.”
Shaking with excitement, I answered, “I am Destiny. I am so excited I can finally meet you.”
“Oh, please, there are more to come!”
My jaw dropped as dozens of giggling girls swam up to the sandy shore, and told me their names. It was very over-whelming, but I was happy to meet them. But the saddest part was waving them good-bye.
“Good-bye, Destiny! And may the odds be ever in your favor!” they called. I waved back, not knowing when I would see them again, but knowing I would.
